WORKSHOP OF SONGS OF WANDERING WHEEL-FIDDLERS
Three days workshop in Artistic Research Centre in Strzelewo near Nowogard.
Wheel-fiddlers used to be a very pictoresque and dynamic phenomenon in the Polish countryside in the old days. They were perceived as a kind of mediators between the realms of the living and the dead - they prayed, chanted and brought along the news from far away. Yet, due to their distinctness and to the mysterious aura surrounding them, they captured attention and provoked controversial reactions.
The workshop finale will be a "Wheel-fiddlers' wander' around the neighbouring villages, as an attempt to restitute tradition that had been ubiquitous in Poland of the beginning of the 20th century. Both the workshop and the 'wander' will be lead by Jacek Hałas (experienced musician and Polish folk tradition researcher) and Barbara Wilińska (musician and psychologist).
