PIOTR BOROWSKI AND STUDIUM TEATRALNE. A DOCUMENTARY STORY.

The upcoming 15th edition of the OKNO Festival launches new stage of the festival's development - it adopts a formula of subject-oriented meetings with selected artists whose broad range of achievements we wish to present - including performances, films, meetings, lectures, and seminars.
The first part - "The Documentary Story" is focused on works of the Warsaw-based Studium Teatralne, and the individual creative path of Piotr Borowski, his practice as an actor, pedagogue and theatre director, as well as his artistic work with a 'true story': a documentary. The special guest of this part will be Hanna Krall, and the entire event will be moderated by Tadeusz Kornaś.
The meetings with Piotr Borowski is to be held around his artistic projects: presentation of his documentary "Koniec Pieśni" ['The End of Song'] will serve as a starting point to the cogitation on 'passing away' of cultural values. The second meeting, attended by Hanna Krall as a special guest, will be preceded by the performance "Król kier znów na wylocie" ['The King of Hearts Is About To Leave Again'], based on Hanna Krall's book, and it will address the problems of the adaptation of a document, the phenomenon of documentary theatre, and the biographical and historical contexts of a theatre piece. In the third meeting, following the presentation of the performance "Linia powrotu" ['The Line of Return'], Piotr Borowski will ponder on his artistic choices, decisions and directions of research, as well as his theatrical experiences.
Piotr Borowski - theatre director and actor. The founder of Studium Teatralne. Since 1975 associated with Jerzy Grotowski's Teatr Laboratorium. Between 1977-1983 he was an actor and musician in The Gardzienice Theatre. Between 1985-1993 he worked at the Centre of Jerzy Grotowski in Pontedera (Italy), where he collaborated with Thomas Richards. In 1996 he founded an independent theatre group Studium Teatralne, with whom he staged many production, presented in Poland and abroad. The group's style is characterized by strongly expressive acting and stage movement enriched with elements of modern dance. The stories told by the actors of Studium Teatralne most often relate to the condition of a contemporary human.
