The "Signposts" Project (Kashubia Region; Kaszëbë or Kaszëbskô in Kashubian language)

The "Signposts" project began with personal wanderings, encounters, multiple returns to the place gradually becoming closer and closer - the place I wanted to understand in-depth, to find its history - for myself. Thus we undertook a trip to the past. Together with a group of kids from several tiny Kashebian villages we followed the tracks of notes found in class registers, discovered in the attic of 125-year old, defunct school in Chośnia. These scraps of memories presented to the oldest habitants have developed into stories: about lessons of a harsh teacher - a German; about a priest rescued from Russians by trading him for ten wristwatches; about the cows illegaly crossing the border; about what it means to be Kashebian. That's how we build a meeting between the young, who did not know much about themselves, the ld who were listened to and between us - strangers who wanted to know. The performance will be presented in the old school building in Chośnica; it is our common story about that meeting and about that place.
