GEIST - performance of the Kana Theatre.
Program
"Geist" - the last unfinished performance by the late Zygmunt Duczynski (Kana creator and director, died 15th of March 2006), completed by the Kana Theatre actors in co-operation with Arkadiusz Buszko. Based on drama "Adam Geist" by Dea Loher.
"Adam Geist is Woyzzeck of our times (...) The protagonist wanders around the world seeking his identity, yet each attempt to define himself turns out to be catastrophic. Geist tries to find the answer to the most important question: who am I? First he seeks the solution in his family, than different circumstances cast him in various places. Everywhere he appears, he is followed by death, destruction, and decay. Kana's "Geist" is a performance of minimalist expression, yet uniquely suggestive one."

"We have seen a touching story about a man who seeks the meaning of life, wanders through a maze of evil, and commits crimes, despite his attempts of striving "to the light". The Kana Theatre tells his story using language full of metaphors, allusions and understatements. The performance uses very modest means but leaves the spectators with the impression of beautifully and wisely composed image, strong with its simplicity."

"The Kana Theatre shows that one can create a touching performance, wise, important, and charged with strong emotions (...) The story of the Adam's way of life, turning into a path of non-culpable deaths, was based on the drama titled "Adam Geist" by German playwright Dea Loher (...) The journey was taken into an extraordinary spatial form. Lights play important, constructive role in the performance (...) The actors are immersed in semi-darkness, enlarged by their shadows, that builds the unreal atmosphere, and intensifies the impression of participation in a journey to the underworld, a trip to the hellish circles. (...) Sonic aspect of the performance is simply hypnotic. Stirring chants of Bibianna Chimiak become the synonym of death and mystery. Deep voice of the actress and lyricism of the song she sings, causes enormous tension in the audience, resulting in extreme emotions - unrest of some spectators and calmness of the others (...) it is a very powerful performance, full of unexplained spirituality (...)"
