EVOKING THE PRESENCE - ALTERNATIVE THEATRE LESSON.
AKADEMIA RUCHU THEATRE (Teatr Akademia Ruchu).
The educational project intended to familiarize the audience with the phenomenon of the student culture and dissident culture of the 1970s and 1980s, and the role of art as "an answer to the reality", also in the contemporary context. In May we would like to invite to encounter with the Akademia Ruchu Theatre.
THE AKADEMIA RUCHU THEATRE
The Akademia Ruchu (Academy of Movement) Theatre was established in Warsaw in 1973 by Wojciech Krukowski.
Akademia Ruchu is an artistic group active in the borderland of various branches art - theatre, visual arts, performance and film. Since its beginning it has been known as a "theatre of behavior" and visual narration. The common features of Akademia Ruchu in creative process include: movement, space and social message, and the related conviction that artistic radicalism and social message do not exclude one another.
Works of Akademia Ruchu in the open city space, since 1974 in form of regular, continuous activity (over 600 performances, happenings and street actions) are the first example in Poland of systematic activities of artistic group in the "non-artistic" space; in the streets, apartment buildings and industrial zones. At the same time, the artists transfer in a provocative way elements of daily life into "sacred" space of art (on stage, into art galleries), enriching its anthropological and aesthetic vision.
Akademia Ruchu has presented its works in nearly all European countries, in both Americas and Japan, during tours and participating in important theatrical festivals. Nowadays it works as a multi-disciplinary center of contemporary art and its members organize individual performances and sometimes working together and showing new common projects.
CHINESE LESSON
Akademia Ruchu made an attempt to free itself from the rule of structural connection of particular elements of public show. Chinese Lesson is rather a series of group performances intentionally unconnected into one entity. The sequence of their presentation may be variable and free, just like a type of space of presentation and number of actions presented in a particular case, as well as "private" - freed from stage discipline - character of behavior of the performers who after completing previous actions, prepare the next ones. The basic common feature of all performances is their formal unity, originating in experiment developed by Akademia Ruchu in the realm of visual language of theatre for thirty years.
The Project "Outsiders. Evoking the Presence - Alternative Theatre Lesson" is co-financed from the means of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, within the program Cultural Education and the Diagnosis of Culture.
