We cover the walls of our rooms with yet another layers of paint. We put wallpapers on them to domesticate the space. We get rid of foreign smells, of old furniture. We establish a new order and say: this is my home. I attempted to break this order, to interfere with the daily routine, with the repetitiveness of activity and events. Through the presence in private appartments I wanted to encourage their dwellers to uncover the layers of memory that have build up over the years. I aimed to retrieve the stories of places and then to find their present equivalents.
The programme in Platerowka will begin after dusk. A silent Buster Keaton film will be screened on a wall of a housing block. A band from Krakow, Ślina, will conduct the workshop on live film accompanying - its participants will play flutes and drums. This will be followed by a dance evening and a bonfire, animated by the bands of Ślina and Pomorzanie. On that night, the quality entertainment will meet art in the atmosphere of nostalgia and humour.
"Eliot and Pound poetry amateur, admirer of the butterfly and rhinoceroses beauty, a subtle provocateur, a martial art instructor, a painter". He was also a co-initiatior of Gruppa, an artistic movement for new expression and absurd in the 80's. A close friend of Zygmunt Duczyński.
By the Niwka-Modrzejów coal mine there used to be a culture centre (.) Next to it there was a park. They called it "the Youth Park". Young people would meet there up to drink cheap wines (.) and discuss on life, hope and love.(.) Over the entrance there was a silhouette of a cat made of steel, and a sign. Why was it a cat? I asked myself this question many times. As a matter of fact I did that not in order to find an answer, but in order to ask this question.
The ensemble is world known for its mime improvisations, black humour and metaphorical sublety. Besides message and narration, the Krepsko ensemble wishes to allow its audience a wider space for understanding and interpreting, as well to give them pleasure through viewing. The world of Krepsko is painfully human, full of eccentric characters, absurd and poetic playfulness. Almost all their performances use no verbal language, but instead they are filled with a quirky Finnish-Czech humour.
A writer, visual artist and theatre director. The political context and the narrative of the city and its inhabitants are the basis of his work, both in the theatre and the public space. The artist, however, does not make garish statements about social reality, but instead works with enigmatic images and subtle interventions. In Szczecin he will undertake an action on the border of theatre and visual arts, by constructing a suggestive, architectonic parable.
Frédéric Etcheverry and Gloria Aras Gasent artistic research is now evolving towards an Interactive Dance-Theatre nourished on visions, symbols, sensations and questionings that they wish to share.
"Exstrada" is a danced promenade interacting with urban space and passers-by, a little disruption that interferes with everyday normality breaking with the corporal codes and the rules of behaviour in public space. This Street Dance-Theatre performance is articulated in total silence (no music nor words) - they apprehend this deep silence as a score that generates an inner and organic music.
The company that we direct around a shared desire: to regard public space (in all its richness and dimensions: spatial, historical, social, poetic.) as the work place and the site for our shows. Movement becomes a way of "taking" a territory, or rather, the dancers borrow a space for the duration of the work or a show - a light, ephemeral appropriation which never excludes the "other", the passer-by, the spectator, the citizen. In their public space interventions and fixed performances alike, the geometry of gesture is built based on a relation - with the space and with another person.
The productions of Akhe Theatre are extraordinary fusion of happening, visual art, installation, video-art and photography. For that reason they are often called " the Russian Engineering Theatre" or "the Optical Theatre". The actors describe themselves as "stage space operators", since the main character in their performances is a precisely constructed reality, made up of stage set (or rather a collection of props), lights, film displays and acting - all of which are the object of quirky experiments, based on an unconventional interpretation of the laws of physics.
Two different countries, two capital cities - bonded by music.Twenty young people, gifted and enthusiastic, share one aim - to find a way of living that allows to play music. The project participants will live together and rehearse from dawn till dusk during two weeks, experiencing the power of art as the mean of intercultural encounter. Various cultural backgrounds, musical trends and instruments will fuse into one during the final concert. On the 7th July on the stage by the Kana Theatre the Polish-German band will perform jazz, funky and pop cross over.

Babu Król is a unique combination of two biggest music talents from Poland. Bajzel is a one-man band. A living legend of dance rhythms, hypnotic trance and poetry of Witkacy. Budyń is a singer, musician, performer, the leader of Pogodno band, known also for his solo projects, stage bravado and flirt with the theatre. This time these two musical visionaries play as a duo, paying hommage to the poet Edward Stachura. Their songs reveal Stachura as a very contemporary artist, close to the present times of migration and quests.
This duo plays the txalaparta, a basic tool in traditional folk music from Euskadi (Basque Spain). They do very traditional music, some great folk-pop crossovers (always acoustic) and a few interesting pieces that brush up on the avant garde. Txalaparta served also as their vehicle and home during their travel from Mongolia to Sahara, from Lapland to India, meeting musicians and discovering the reality of far away peoples. The visual and sound material resulted in an astonishing documentary called 'Nomadak Tx' which won multiple awards at international film festivals.
Tartit ("Union") is a Tuareg band consisting of five women and four men residing in the Timbuktu region. Tuareg society is one of the few throughout Africa in which position of women is very strong. Most of Tartit's songs are simply structured. The female members of the band play the traditional instruments, imzad and tinde, and are supplemented by the teherdent ngoni and/or electric guitar played by the men. To these instruments are added chants and percussive handclaps. The result is a sort of desert blues, a hypnotic, trance-inducing music.
The Schola is concerned with the reconstruction of mediaeval liturgical dramas, research into the traditions of liturgical and sacred song and cultural anthropology. While working on "Orient-Occident" the group members discovered that the modality of medieval music makes it seem more familiar for Middle East and Arabic regions than for modern Europe. For this reason the representatives of that culture - Mohammad Rasouli and Mohseen Hosseini have been invited to collaboration. The programme includes classical Persian chants interwoven with medieval European compositions.
The female founded by women of Svaneti, the highest inhabitet region in Europe. After a massive avalanche had swept through their village, they were made to move to the alien wastelands of Kakheti region. In spite of the new, geographically and culturally unfamiliar conditions, the Svan women attempt to uphold their traditions, by passing their ancient songs to younger generation. The main themes of the songs are religious holidays, national heroes, fights against the conquerors, famous sovereigns, tragic love stories etc.
A traditional folk music group from Bitti, Sardinia who employ a polyphonic vocal style, often described as a type of overtone singing, whose oral tradition dates back to 3000 BC. During the performance the singers face each other in a circle. They alternate moments in which they dance, holding each other tightly by the arms, to emphasize the strength of their singing and the bond between them. They don't use written texts for their lyrics, handing them down from father to son. They are considered one of the best and most traditional groups in Sardynia, acknowledged by critics and historians of Sardinian traditions alike.

The works of the theatre are based on "actions" and "stories" inspired by cultural experiences deriving from people's roots and interpersonal relations. The Passion of the Trojan Women is a return to the tradition and region of Grecia Salentina (the songs in the spectacle are performed in griko, the ancient dialect similar to Greek language, used in the Salento region). The performance is a moving tale about the human dignity and the unimagineable havoc that the war always leaves behind. The suffering of Cassandra, Hecuba, Clytemnestra, Polyxena, Helen and other Women of Troy becomes the symbol of the timeless tragic fate of the generations to come. The story is conveyed is through emotions, images, female vocal and songs.
