10th International Meetings of Young Theatre - OKNO 2006
Polish-German University of Theatrical Tradition
"The Unconventional Actor - Craft, Revolt, Utopia"

15th - 19th November 2006

10th International Meetings of Young Theatre OKNO is a jubilee edition of the festival, one of the most important projects of the Kana Theatrical Centre. It was conceived and prepared together with the late Zygmunt Duczynski, the founder of our theatre.

No one has expected that Zygmunt may pass. We all hope that during this meeting we will meet Him too - his way of thinking, his openness and curiosity, his energy - in his place.

To common creation of this year festival we invited artists who speak various languages, but what they have in common is work on perfection of their craft and finding their own creative method, as well as specific understanding of theatre as a way of seeking. Once they all have set out the journey - in a sense of "source quests" to other cultural areas (helping to learn and understand also their own tradition), as well as in a sense of personal decisions concerning their way of life, with art as an integral part of it. They all are constantly involved in research on actor's craft - on their own craft.

The program of the festival is based on presence of the following groups, artists and centres: ZAR Theatre (Wroclaw), Studium Teatralne (Warsaw), Schola of the Wegajty Theatre (Wegajty), Troubadors of Christ the Lord (Poznan/Wegajty), Jacek Halas (Poznan), Farma v Jeskyni Theatre (The Czech Republic), Teaterlabor im Tor 6 (Germany), Imre Thormann (Switzerland), Atsushi Takenouchi (Japan) and The Centre for Study of Jerzy Grotowski's Work and for Cultural and Theatrical Research in Wroclaw. Besides performances the program includes also open presentations of methods of work, projections of films, meetings and workshops. Another integral part of the festival is also the Polish-German University of Theatrical Tradition, providing young people from both countries the opportunity to learn, discover, ask questions, and talk with the artists. We hope that this "informal education" will help them to enrich their perception of art.

The OKNO Festival is developing and maturing with us. It is changing, transgressing, challenging various areas, subjects, and currents. It is trying to re-define problems seemingly recognised and solved. It is asking questions rather than giving finished answers.
